Editorial review:

This Victorian terrace has been reborn as a boutique hotel called The Hatton. Each room is styled uniquely. I love this hotel. Great ambience and decor - think open fire and candles in brass candle sticks in the reception / bar/ breakfast room; interesting artifacts and art throughout; large deep bath and l'occitane toiletries; French doors opening onto a gorgeous little coutyard; really quiet atmosphere; tram at the front door; the Domain at the end of the street and a good range if restaurants 50m up the road. Staff go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. And the breakfast included in the tariff is high quality cereal, pastries, fruit, yoghurt etc. Everything you want ... and more!

Friendly and helpful staff, value for money given location

Bed gave us backache, though I recognise that this sort of thing might depend in part on what you are used to

Excellent breakfast, beautiful hotel, very professional staff, tram stop at front door and great cafe's down the road near the park.

Excellent supportive staff. Quiet room, well-equipped. Good bread and cappuccino during breakfast. Complimentary bottle of good red wine. Tram to city centre in front of hotel. Interesting art and design in the hallways.

Breakfast room a bit uncomfortable due to not so many seats, with visitors from outside occupying the best seats during prime time, most of the time synchronizing their iPads with their mobile phones. Some dust on the cabinet.

The hotel was within a close proximity to the Melbourne cbd with a tram stop close by. Upon arrival the hotel staff were very accommodating. The room was spotless and contained quality bedding and kitchen equipment. Car parking was available at no extra cost. Breakfast was substantial and excellent quality. The staff were pleasant and helpful. We would stay again.

Went to the MCG for the Football. Shopping, eating, walking.

The double bed was a little too firm and the bath/shower was difficult to get in and out of/

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hatton Hotel. The hotel had a lot of charm, and was well maintained at comfortable. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Not the most central location, but easy transport (there is a tram stop right outside) and we enjoyed the location because it wasn't right in the centre of town. The botanic gardens right next door are beautiful and there are some small cafe's and restaurants nearby. Only took us 5-10 mins to take a tram into the city centre. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Great staff, very pleasant and helpful, great position, quiet but so close to the CBD, and relaxed and excellent quality breakfast, even if a little be limited in savouries choice (only a cheese). Definitely a good choice for a city trip.

I really liked the old style charm building exterior. The cosy layout of the dining room, narrow passages and carpet clad wooden staircases gave a great feel. Location was good for a walk in the Botanic Gardens, or to attend a show at the nearby Olympic park.

Despite trying to maintain an olde world charm, some aspects were poorly done. For example, the stainless steel bench tops / sink and modern light fittings just did not fit. Bathroom in our room was very small - difficult to get in and out of the bath.

Exceptionally friendly, courteous and helpful staff.Welcoming reception room with bar, jazz/ art deco feel. Established hotel with oak bannisters, stained glass windows, high ceilings, contemporary art. Wi- fi. Great breakfasts. Quiet street, near botanic gardens, walkable to shops or tram stop at door. Flexibility where possible (eg I arrived in the morning after an international flight and was able to move in as the room was ready)

I stayed here twice. I was upgraded the first time to the luxury suite wtih balcony, which was luxurious, but darker and cooler than the queen room I had the second time. (I'm sure if i'd asked they'd have brought extra lights or heaters!)

Very quiet boutique hotel with wonderful historical building and surronds. Short walk to botanical gardens and spectacular restaurants and cafes. Tram stop less than 50m away. Off street parking. Extremely friendly and helpful reception staff. Breakfast (delicious and classy) included in price. Room is spotlessly cleaned every day. Modern updated facilities with ample mini kitchenette. Gourmet coffee and tea provided. I love this hotel and would choose to stay here every single time I come to Melbourne. I can't fault this place :)

The staff are very attentive and pleasant all of the time which made us feel very welcome. The continental breakfast did not disappoint as usual, and the selection of fresh fruit and excellent coffee made for a great start to the day. The location near the "tan" is great for a morning stroll and starting the day on the right foot.
